A DESK THAT WORKS

Work monitor buying guide: A better view of your workday.

A practical checklist for the screen you'll spend the most time with.

By CrowCatch · Buying guidance; not hands-on testing. Updated .

Measure the desk first

Consider viewing distance, desk depth and stand size before choosing a diagonal measurement. A screen that fills the available width can still place text uncomfortably close to your face. Check whether the stand adjusts in height and whether its feet leave room for a keyboard. If you plan to use an arm, confirm the mount pattern, screen weight and the arm's actual limits.

Think about readable text

Resolution and size work together. More pixels can give text a cleaner edge, but operating-system scaling affects how much usable workspace remains. Check the resolution supported by your laptop at the connection and refresh rate you intend to use. A large display running at a lower supported resolution may not deliver the workspace you expected.

Read the connection details

A USB-C socket can support different combinations of charging, video and data. Confirm that the monitor accepts video over the relevant connection and that your computer can send it. If the display charges a laptop, check its power-delivery specification against your device's requirements. An included cable may be necessary for the advertised capabilities.

Match the panel to the room

Think about glare, windows, brightness adjustment and the kind of work you do. Manufacturer color-coverage figures do not establish that every unit has been independently calibrated. For color-critical work, look for relevant measurement evidence and understand the calibration workflow. For ordinary office use, adjustability, text clarity and reliable connections may matter more than a dramatic marketing specification.

Check the extra equipment

A dock, adapter, arm or longer cable can change the total cost. Built-in speakers and webcams may be convenient, but their presence does not guarantee that they suit your meetings. Check compatibility with the operating systems you actually use, including any limitations on multi-monitor arrangements.

A practical comparison

For a laptop desk, compare two complete setups: a monitor with the required USB-C video and charging support, and a display that needs a separate adapter and charger. The second can still be good value, but its extra cables and accessories belong in the total. For a shared desk, stand adjustment may solve a daily problem that a higher refresh-rate specification does not. Write down what you will connect before choosing between them.

Before you catch it

Verify the exact model suffix, panel size, native resolution, supported inputs, charging output, stand and included cables. Read the seller's return and defective-pixel policies. This checklist explains comparison points; it does not claim CrowCatch has tested a particular display.
